Being a police officer is a thankless job, or so it can seem.
Contrary to the spate of negative reports appearing in the media, Americans respect for law enforcement is actually on the rise, according to a new poll conducted by Gallup. The survey found that three in four Americans, or 76 percent, have a “great respect” for the police in their area, up 12 percent points from just a year ago.
The poll also found a rise in respect among nonwhite respondents despite increased tension surrounding the well-publicized shootings of unarmed civilians. Two in three nonwhites (67%) report having the same level of respect, an increase of 14 points from last year.
All we can say is thank you, officers.
