“Can you ever be prepared for an active threat?”: In 2017, everybody has an active shooter drill

The title says it all. The article focuses on preparedness in Virginia, but it could easily be Anytown, USA.

From courthouses to schools to houses of worship, seems everyone is readying themselves for a potential attack. Police and sheriff’s departments are providing training to civilians, and synagogues are hiring security guards for services. Teachers are talking to their students about how to react in an emergency.

Scary stuff, for certain, but these are scary times. It is hoped that the strategy will save lives. But hope alone doesn’t save lives; planning, however, may. The credo after 9/11 was “see something, say something.” You can add “do something” to the 2017 version.
