Could a device no bigger than a wireless router be the key to preventing attacks at casinos and other hospitality venues? Its developer certainly hopes so.
Introduced at this month’s ISC West Expo, Patriot One Technologies uses radar to detect a guns, knifes and other weapons. It’s hidden in the floor boards or walls, so it doesn’t detract from the guest experience like metal detectors do.
Once a weapon is found, a message is sent to a cell phone or computer, alerting security staff of potential risks. The manufacturer claims a 90 percent efficacy rate.
Patriot One Technologies is being marketed to the casino and entertainment industries, but it could also be useful in schools and houses of worship. The device has been in the works since 2008.
